Lesson 2.1: Culture and Religion

This week lesson has once again reminded me of how religion and culture can influence one another. The first example I could think of is how popular culture in America has affected Christian and many others religion’s view of same sex marriage, and I am very glad for this. More specific, not many years ago, the religious people that I know were very intolerant of the LGBT community, but as religion leaders adapted new perspectives, those people have become much more open minded. Furthermore, through movie and musics, the LGBT movement also influences other religions in foreign countries. Since religion is diverse within itself, it is common to see religious leaders in some places accept the view of same sex marriage while others reject it. Between culture and religion exist a strong relationship, which acts like an invisible force, like gravity, because we tend to forget its existence as we get used to it.
